First Grade March Newsletter
Literacy- In HMH Module 5, the students will learn about light and dark, and the many sources of light that have an impact on daily life. They will read books about Earth’s rotation around the sun and learn about day and night and the seasons. Students will have fun writing a realistic fiction narrative that tells a story about a problem they faced in the dark. The students will use their knowledge from the module to develop their stories.
Social Studies- In Unit 4, First grade will learn about Community Economics. Students will learn about how jobs and money affect communities.
Science- In Amplify, students will continue to work on the Light and Sound Unit. The key concepts for this month are when all light passes through a material, the surface behind the material looks bright. When some light passes through a material, the surface behind the material looks medium bright.
Math- Students will continue to work on Module 4: Place Value, Comparison, Addition and Subtraction to 40. Through the exploration of number stories, students will understand that the two digits of a two-digit number represent amounts of tens and ones. They will use place value understanding and properties of operations to add and subtract.
