Second Grade March Newsletter
Literacy- In HMH Module 5, Students will be learning about the qualities that good leaders have. They will read about famous leaders in history, children who are leaders in their community, and opinions about what it takes to be a great leader. In writing, students will write opinion pieces about a leader of their choice. Students will support their opinions with reasons, and examples.
Social Studies- In Unit 3, Second graders will learn about Urban, Suburban and Rural communities. They will compare and contrast the qualities of these areas to identify similarities and differences.
Science- In Amplify, students will continue with the unit of study: Changing Landforms. The key concept this month is we can’t see the landform change in front of us. It takes a long time for the landform to change shape because the pieces that break off are so small. When enough tiny pieces of the landform break off, the landform changes enough that we can observe the change.
Math- Students will continue to work on Module 5: Addition and Subtraction within 1000 with Word Problems to 100. Students will be exploring number stories. They will learn different strategies and choose from the strategies to do the addition and subtraction necessary to solve the problems.
