Third Grade Newsletter- March 2026
Literacy- In HMH Module 5, will build their knowledge about the concept of teamwork, with a focus on the realistic fiction genre. We will read texts and view videos about how sports can bring people together to work as a team. During this time students will also use close reading strategies to build comprehension and respond to literature.
Social Studies- Third graders will conduct a case study of China. They will explore the culture, geography and history that shape the country. The students will study the different communities within China to identify similarities and differences.
Science- In Amplify, students will continue to work on the Unit : Balancing Forces. Students discover that if forces are balanced but then one force
is changed, the forces become unbalanced, which can cause an object to start moving. They create final diagrams and explanations showing the full process of how the train rises, floats, and then falls back to the track.
Math- Students will continue to work on Module 5: Fractions as Numbers on the Number Line. Students extend and deepen 2nd grade practice with “equal shares” to understanding fractions as equal partitions of a whole. They formalize their knowledge as they work with area models and the number line. Students will learn to partition number lines into fractional parts, renaming whole numbers as fractions.
